CroisiEurope & Our Attempts To Protect the Environment

At CroisiEurope, we believe nature is our greatest treasure. For decades, this belief has shaped our approach to river cruising and driven us to protect the ecosystems we explore.

As one of the pioneers in sustainable river tourism, our environmental commitment goes well beyond compliance. We continuously seek new, effective ways to reduce our ecological footprint—because for us, sustainability isn’t a trend; it’s a responsibility.

One key example of this is our recent transition to GTL (Gas-to-Liquid) fuel. In collaboration with AS Energy, we successfully conducted trials on the Seine River. The results were clear: GTL fuel burns cleaner and more evenly, significantly reducing emissions compared to traditional marine fuels. This change marks a major step in reducing air pollution along our waterways.

CroisiEurope’s Commitment to Sustainability

Smart Water Management: Reducing Use and Waste

To preserve our most essential natural resource—water—we’ve equipped our ships with water-saving devices that cut freshwater consumption by up to 35%. This not only conserves water but also significantly reduces the amount of wastewater generated onboard.

Plastic-Free Hydration: Onboard Water Filtration Systems

We’ve installed high-quality water fountains across our fleet. These systems filter municipal water directly on board using activated carbon and UV treatment, with optional carbon dioxide infusion for sparkling water. By doing so, we eliminate the need for single-use plastic bottles—saving approximately 30 tons of plastic waste every year.

Responsible Wastewater Disposal: Clean Practices in Every Port

Every CroisiEurope vessel is equipped with an advanced wastewater evacuation system. When docked, our ships discharge wastewater into official urban sewer systems or certified wastewater treatment facilities, ensuring nothing pollutes the natural environment. At our dedicated CroisiEurope dock, we’ve also installed a wastewater collection system that connects directly to the city’s sewer network, allowing seamless and safe transfer of onboard waste.

Green Propulsion: Cleaner, Quieter Cruising

All CroisiEurope ships proudly carry the Green Ship Label, meeting the most stringent European environmental standards for emissions control. This ensures our fleet actively contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions across Europe’s rivers and waterways. We also invest in state-of-the-art onboard technology that optimizes fuel use during navigation. These innovations not only reduce our carbon footprint but also enhance the overall energy efficiency of our cruises.

To further protect the environment and enhance your onboard experience, we’ve insulated the ventilation systems in our engine rooms. This smart adjustment helps minimize noise pollution, preserving the peace of riverbanks and natural habitats we travel through.

Sustainable Travel - One Cruise at a Time

Shore Power & Clean Excursions: Lowering Our Carbon Footprint on Land

When our ships dock, we prioritize clean energy. At ports equipped with Powerlock connectors, our vessels systematically connect to shore power. This reduces the need to run onboard generators, cutting down both noise and air pollution. We're also proactively investing in shore power installations at our own docks to expand access to these eco-friendly systems. During the winter months, our ships are moored at river ports with electrical terminals. These terminals supply clean energy, allowing us to keep systems running without burning fuel, helping to protect the air and keep local environments quieter.

We extend our green commitment beyond the water. In Paris, for example, our guests enjoy excursions aboard electric buses. These vehicles are not only low-emission but also remarkably quiet, making urban exploration more pleasant for travelers and locals alike.

Eco-Education Onboard & Sustainable Printing Practices

At CroisiEurope, we believe that small, everyday choices can lead to meaningful environmental change. That’s why we encourage our guests to reuse bath towels during their cruise. Through friendly onboard announcements and written reminders, we gently raise awareness about water conservation and energy use, inviting everyone to be part of our sustainability mission.

We also take responsibility for our environmental impact on land, especially in how we communicate. All printed materials produced by CroisiEurope adhere to the Imprim’Vert® environmental certification. Our brochures, guides, and signage are printed using vegetable-based inks on unbleached, eco-friendly paper, ensuring that even our marketing reflects our deep respect for the planet.
