CroisiEurope vs Scenic Luxury Cruises:
Scenic Luxury Cruises is an Australian brand founded in Newcastle, NSW, in 1986 and it has built a formidable reputation for ultra-luxury river cruising. It's a source of pride that one of the world's most acclaimed river cruise lines is Australian-owned. But Scenic and CroisiEurope are targeting genuinely different travellers, at very different price points. Here's the honest comparison.
Company Background
CroisiEurope: Founded 1976, Strasbourg, France. Family-owned, French. Europe's #1 river cruise operator by volume. 50 ships, 170 itineraries, 38 countries. 200,000+ passengers per year.
Scenic: Founded 1986, Newcastle Australia. Australian-owned. Approximately 12 'Space-Ships' in Europe plus ocean ships. Markets itself at the ultra-luxury segment globally.
Price
CroisiEurope: 7-day Danube cruise from approximately €880-€1,200pp twin share. Comprehensive all-inclusive.
Scenic: 8-day Danube cruise from approximately AUD$6,000-$9,000pp twin share (2027 estimates). All-inclusive including butler service, premium alcohol, e-bikes, and more.
Scenic is typically 4-6x the price of CroisiEurope. This is the defining fact of any comparison between them. They are not competing for the same traveller.
What 'Luxury' Means at Scenic
Scenic's pricing reflects genuine luxury differences not just marketing. Their 'Space-Ships' offer:
• Butler service for every suite
• Premium all-inclusive including top-shelf spirits, Champagne, and fine wines
• E-bikes and kayaks on board
• Larger, more lavishly appointed suites with balconies
• Scenic Enrich exclusive experiences private concerts, local dinners in châteaux or castles not open to the public
• 163 passengers maximum smaller than CroisiEurope's ships
If your priority is a genuinely five-star experience where every detail is managed and money is secondary, Scenic delivers.
What CroisiEurope Offers Instead
CroisiEurope is not trying to compete with Scenic on luxury. It's offering something different: very good quality river cruising at an accessible price, with French-quality food and wine at the heart of the experience.
• All meals, wine and beer with meals, excursions, and port taxes included
• 170 itineraries the broadest range of any river cruise operator in the world
• French-quality cuisine prepared by trained chefs
• 50 ships across 38 countries if there's a navigable river worth cruising, CroisiEurope likely has a ship on it
• Dedicated Australian booking support 1300 739 652, AUD pricing
Who Should Choose Scenic?
Scenic is appropriate for Australian travellers for whom budget is not a primary consideration, who want a genuinely five-star hotel experience on the water, and who will find value in the exclusive experiences and butler service.
Who Should Choose CroisiEurope?
CroisiEurope is appropriate for the majority of Australian river cruise travellers those who want excellent quality food, wine, service, and destinations; a genuine community atmosphere; and the ability to choose from an extraordinarily broad range of rivers and itineraries, at a price that leaves money for flights, pre-cruise hotels, or the next trip.
The key insight: the river and the destinations are identical regardless of which cruise line you choose. The Danube's Wachau Valley, Vienna's Schönbrunn Palace, and Budapest's Parliament Building are the same whoever your ship belongs to. What changes is the price you pay to see them, and the level of on-board pampering.
